HELP! SIMS 3 CC NOT SHOWING UP IN INSTALLED CONTENT

Hi there!

I absolutely love the sims 3, I it is my favorite version of the Sims. I'm trying to install mods for the first time and I'm having issues. I have a 2017 MacbookPro. Here are the steps I have taken:

1. I  downloaded two separate packages from TheSims Resource

2. I put them both in the Downloads folder in Documents/ElectronicArts/Sims3/Downloads

3. This didn't show up in installed content

4. I installed Resource.cfg.package and put that in a separate Mods Folder in the Sims 3 folder.

5. I put a package in the Mods folder

Neither of these packages showed up in Installed Content on the Sims 3 Launcher.

What should I do? I am open to all suggestions!

  • @kkenpkbssien  There are two different ways to install custom content, depending on what file extension it has.  Files ending in .Sims3Pack go into ...The Sims 3 > Downloads, and then they show under Downloads in the launcher.  You'd still need to install them separately from there, by checking the boxes next to them and clicking Install; they'd then be listed under Installed Content.

However, it sounds like you've downloaded .package files.  These go into ...The Sims 3 > Mods > Packages, with Resource.cfg sitting directly in Mods.  The files must be inside Packages; they won't be read if they're directly in Mods.  These .package files will not show up anywhere in the launcher; the only way to know whether they're loading is to look for them in-game.

If you'd like a more detailed walkthrough, please see this:

Regardless, make sure you delete the five cache files in the Sims 3 folder after installing (or removing) any mods or custom content.  For reference, they are:

    • CASPartCache.package
    • compositorCache.package
    • scriptCache.package
    • simCompositorCache.package
    • socialCache.package

As a side note, I would suggest that whenever you have a choice, it's best to use .package files rather than .Sims3Packs due to the ease of removal.  The launcher can also get bogged down with a lot of installed Sims3Packs.

Hi theres, a dbc file in the DCCache file. What do i do ??

  • simmyyyy50  What issue are you having?  This thread is somewhat old, so it might be better to start your own.  But either way, I need more information about your own issue before I can try to help.

I also have an issue, I installed some cc through the launcher and cleaned my cache as usual, then when I went to start the launcher again, the cc was gone, like I never installed it.

  • katanas1233  When you say you "cleaned my cache," does that include deleting DCCache or the files inside?  That's where content installed through the launcher is stored, so of course deleting it would make that content disappear.

If that's not the issue, please let me know whether your computr runs Windows or macOS.  Please also post a screenshot of the contents of DCCache, as in, I'd like to see the file dates and sizes.

So basically, my sims 3 cc ain’t loading and my worlds don’t load. I don’t know if those files are corrupted.

  • simmyyyy50  What happens when you try to load the saves?  Do you get an error, does the game crash, does it hang on the loading screen forever, etc.?  For the cc that isn't loading, have you installed it through the launcher, or as .package files in Mods > Packages, or both?
